“Mjolnir” pendant, a handcrafted piece — can be worn as a pendant or used as a keychain.
This is a double-sided pendant, a stylized rendering of “Thor’s Hammer” (Mjolnir), Northern Germany, 9th century. Size: 41 × 32mm. Mjolnir (Old Norse for “crusher”) is the hammer of the god Thor in Germanic and Norse mythology, forged with a disproportionately short handle because of Loki’s mischief. It was so heavy that no one but Thor and his son Magni could lift it. Thor also wore magical iron gauntlets that let him wield the hammer as a throwing weapon, one that always struck its target and returned to his hand, along with the belt of strength, Megingjord, which doubled the wearer’s power. Mjolnir was so mighty a weapon that its blow brought lightning and thunder; it was regarded as Thor’s own symbol, and replicas of the hammer were popular across Scandinavia, worn around the neck as amulets.
