This is a stylized 14th-century European heart-shaped fibula. Size: 42 × 45mm. A fibula is a metal clasp. Unlike most modern brooches, fibulae serve simultaneously as an ornament and a practical fastener: a pin with a “catch” for its sharp end lets it secure clothing. Fibulae of various shapes were in use from the Bronze Age all the way to the late Middle Ages.
